About

Our history

The CWA was formed in 1922 when country women were fighting isolation and a lack of health facilities. Within the first year, the Association was a unified, resourceful group that was going from strength to strength. The members worked tirelessly to set up baby health care centres, fund bush nurses, build and staff maternity wards, hospitals, schools, rest homes, seaside and mountain holiday cottages – and much more. The women of the CWA have been initiators, fighters and lobbyists. They have made localities into communities by providing social activities and educational, recreational and medical facilities.

What we do

We are more than ‘tea and scones’.

We study a different country/flora/fauna/foe each year. To educate and encourage us to know more about our world today.

We actively fundraise for a variety of charities, local organisations and respond in times of crisis,  like bush fires, drought, homelessness, floods and more.

We lobby governments about issues that are concerning to our members and their communities.

Today

The Virtual Branch was formed in December 2018 after a need was recognised for women to be able to meet across the state when unable to attend a physical branch.  Some of our members have joined because of location, work commitments, disability or just convenience.

As we are a young branch, and the first CWA on-line branch, we are working our way through some challenges whilst making new friends, having a laugh and enjoying getting to know each other.

CWA is a voluntary organisation for women of all ages and walks of life, non-politcal and non-sectarian.  We currently have over 40 women in our branch – ranging in age from early 30s to 70s.

So why not join us?  Give it a go!  We have mentors to help you along the way.  You may find a fellow member close by or a new friend far away.

Facebook and Instagram

We have a closed Facebook page for our members to communicate with each other.  This is our way of communicating at other times and not just at our meetings.  We share ideas, recipes, photos, crafts, current affairs, environmental issues and lots of other things.

We also have a public Facebook page which we use to actively engage non-members.
